About Me

I am a band director at five private schools in Kankakee. Music is a big part of my life, but knitting and crafting are right up there too. I own a ridiculous stash of yarn, which I am slowly using... and replacing with better yarn... I tend to knit and crochet a lot, in class, out of class, while watching tv, while driving, pretty much constantly. I have been involved with crochet romantically for 15 years, and involved with knitting for 11 years. They sometimes get jealous of each other. I think its funny. Along with knitting and crocheting, I quilt, spin (drop spindle) and design patterns!!

Germany: Day 5 Zip Lining/Castles/Rain/and German Weiners

Right now everyone went out to the store for some snacks and drinks after the realllly long day we have had. I decided to stay in because I knew there was a ton of stuff I wanted to post today in my blog. Plus it was just really easy to give Tony some coins and ask him to grab me something! :)

I have a couple pictures from the amazing night last night still left. We went on a walk to try and find some nightlife, and ended up getting ice cream and taking pictures!

It was just one of those nights where you cant stop laughing. We were high on life!

So today, instead of heading into a school we went on a small car drive to visit one of the castles here in Germany.

We first stopped off in a butchers shop and bakery! Everything was so much cheaper than in the states!!
And cuter too!

On the way we drove by a volcano! (the bf would appreciate it!)

We were on our way to a castle!!!

Lichtenstein castle is one of those castles you just want to pick up and put in your pocket it is so cute.

"Lichtenstein Castle is situated on a cliff located near Honau in the Swabian Alb, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its self-descriptive name in English means "light (colored) stone."
Historically there has been a castle on the site since around 1200. It was twice destroyed, once in the Reichskriegs war of 1311 and again by the city-state of Reutlingen in 1381. The castle was not reconstructed and subsequently fell to ruin.

In 1802 the land came into the hands of King Frederick I of Württemberg, who built a hunting lodge there. By 1837 the land had passed to his nephew Duke Wilhelm of Urach, Count of Württemberg, who, inspired by Wilhelm Hauff's novel Lichtenstein [1], added the current castle in 1840–42. The romantic Neo-Gothic design of the castle was created by the architect Carl Alexander Heideloff.

Today the castle is still owned by the Dukes of Urach, but is open to visitors. The castle contains a large collection of historic weapons and armour."~ wikipedia

We got stuck in a big thunderstorm right after we got out of the castle, so we held up in a random arch until it passed.

After the castle and grabbing some food we went to abenteuerpark. It is a tree climbing park,
"The Adventure Park Adrenatur are young and old welcome. Experience your own adventure as you swing in the forest ten meters through the trees like Tarzan. Overcome your fears and experience unforgettable moments in nature. Of course, always with a net and double ground."

And it was a blast. We tried three courses, took about 3 hours, maybe a little less, but at some points took every single muscle in our body. There were times I thought... Oh yeah... I'm afraid of heights... Or I don't think I can get myself up on that platform.... or... There is a good chance I am going to die.

But hearing all the other girls scream with laughter, made me realize, I am actually having a blast. And for the platforms I had trouble with, I had Tony to hoist my weak butt up to safety!

Getting ready! Pirate hats on!!! :)
Professor Becker! The amazing reason we are here to celebrate Germany!

All of us looking so stylish in our awesome harnesses. A little snug in all the wrong areas was the common agreement. :)

Climbing up the tall tower to see what is in store for us! Excitement and terror filled us!

It was actually not that bad. Exhausting at some points, but extremely fun none the less and an absolute blast the entire time! I learned a lot about myself. I can be strong when I know if I let go I could die, I have better upper body strength then I thought I did, and I am no longer afraid of heights! Tho when I did give up, I had some awesome cheerleaders, and a really great helper to pull me up when I couldnt make it by myself! (Thanks Tony!)
I never thought in my life I would be doing anything like this. Never. I am glad I got to conquer my fear of heights in order to do this adventure!

Weiner Roast!

Yay me!
I still love being a pirate though!

In the butcher shops it seemed that food was much cheaper. Not restaurant food tho, that seems to be normal price or more expensive.

abenteuerpark was awesome. I would recommend it to anyone!
